Flood

The Seine is overflowing its banks slightly as there has been snow, as you know. As it is now melting the Seine is full, as it were and overboard she goes. Boats have actually stopped running on the Seine as it is moving quickly. I don't quite understand why, but perhaps because the shorelines are now hidden, and there aren't any markers to show where the center channel is. If you look at the top picture at the point of the Ile de la Cite, there is an indentation of a window which is now almost completely submerged, and you can only see the top of the window. Kind of crazy as there is usually about 2 feet of wall beneath it. In the bottom picture at the bottom of the stairs there is a green trash bag. It is about 3 1/2 feet tall and is on the walkway which is completely submerged.

In the second from the bottom you can see the two arches of the pont de la Tournelle, and under the right arch there should be a walk way but it has been consumed by the river.

Bercy oh.

The other night, more like last week a couple of us went to go see the Gossip. I thought that it was going to be a more intimate concert, kind of Bowery Ballroom size at most. Little did I know that the Gossip in Paris are mega stars! We left work a bit early and took a cab to the arena where there were 4 enormous lines, and it was of course freezing cold and the ground everywhere was covered in ice. Once in the hallways dumps into the mid level of the stands. We made our way over to the left side of the arena and sat down in what were amazing seats. The VIP section had nothing on us at all. The show was opened with Hercules and the Love Affair, which is one of my favorites, and they are amazing as they sound like they sound, have tons of energy,  and really got the crowd going. I got to take a bit of video during Blind, which was their breakout a couple of years ago. So so fun. When the lights came back on for the stage crew to set up the next act, I saw the gentleman's hair in front of me. Never in my life have I so longed for scissors, even the mini fingernail kind, as the wisp wasn't thick enough to stop them. A band called Metronomy came on and they were ok. They had a great light show and the music was very emo. Then came on the Gossip and the crowd lost it. After leaving the stage the crowd screamclapstomped an encore into being and they shut the night down by teasing the crowd with a bit of "we're going to celebrate" which turned into Heavy Cross. Metal streamers shot out everywhere and wildness insued. They sang and played for 2 hours until the place kicked us out; it came to have the feeling of a night at someone's house when you just play, dance to music, and then their mom comes turns on the lights and says get to bed.

Paris sur glace

It has been snowing on and off since I got back to Paris, which to me is wonderful, a real winter wonderland. Though there is a real dark side compared to what goes on in NY. Um, the Parisians in general haven't a clue as how to deal with anything more than a couple of centimeters. No plowing, salt or sand, or shovels.

Home again, home again

Pardon the absence. It has been nearly a month. CT was the best time I have had in a very long time, and at the moment I am trying to put my things together. I just haven't been insanely inspired to sit and do a blog, or at least, I have been working and been quite social as well. which I think is a good thing.

The following are images not captured specifically by me:
